Last season these two sides were enjoying the big time in the Premier League, but now Cardiff City and Fulham are preparing for what could be an edgy Championship battle on Friday night.
It’s still the early stages of the season and both teams are getting used to life back in the second tier and the hectic schedule that comes with it.
Fulham manager Scott Parker’s side sit in fifth place in the Championship standings, with Neil Warnock‘s Cardiff just two points behind in 14th.
In the Premier League last year both teams won their home encounter in this fixture and there was very little to choose between them in their most recent meeting, with Fulham winning 1-0 at Craven Cottage back in April.
Aleksandar Mitrovic will be one man that Cardiff will have to try and keep quiet on Friday night, as the Serbian forward has already found the back of the net four times in the Championship this season.
The powerful forward, who also impressed on his previous loan spell at Newcastle United, gave Fulham a massive boost when he decided to stay at Craven Cottage when there was plenty of interest in his services over the summer.
If Cardiff can keep Mitrovic quiet then that will go a long way to ensuring the Bluebirds can take something from the game in the Welsh capital.
This could well be another cagey affair between two evenly-matched sides at the Cardiff City Stadium.
The Cottagers will be looking to bounce back after they suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest in their last match.
That result was on the back of a 4-0 win over Millwall, so Fulham are perhaps struggling for consistency at this early stage of the season.
The same can be said for Cardiff, who have a defeat, a win and a draw to their name in their last three Championship games against Reading, Huddersfield and Blackburn respectively. With very little to choose between these two teams, this one could end up in a draw between two sides that should be challenging at the top end of the Championship table this season.
