Villa to break drought against Toffees

Aston Villa will be looking to secure their first Premier League point at the third time of asking on Friday night when they host Everton at Villa Park.

Draw @ 13/5

Villa boss Dean Smith was handed around £130million in the summer transfer window to build a side capable of ensuring their return to the top flight would not be a one-season wonder after their Championship play-off final success against derby in May.

However, despite the huge outlay, Villa have endured a disappointing opening two matches as they suffered a 3-1 defeat at Tottenham, before losing 2-1 at home to Bournemouth on Saturday.

Villa did have positive spells in both games and went close to snatching a draw against Bournemouth having tried to fight back from going two goals behind inside the opening 12 minutes.

And with signs that the new faces are starting to gel into a functional side, they look good to get off the mark on Friday.

Everton arrive having followed up a goalless draw at Crystal Palace with a 1-0 win against Watford at Goodison Park and, while there has only been one draw in the previous seven meetings, this looks like being a stalemate.

Under 2.5 goals @ 1/1

Villa’s opening two games have yielded a combined seven goals, but only two of those were scored by them, while Everton arrive having not conceded in the league so far.

Marco Silva’s side have also only managed one goal from those two matches so excitement has been at a premium for the Toffees’ supporters to date.

New attacking signings Moise Kean and Alex Iwobi have yet to feature for Everton so Marco Silva might be tempted to pitch them in on Friday as he has urged his forwards to be “more assertive” in the opposition’s box.

Both sides are capable of grabbing a goal in the game, but don’t expect a goalfest with Everton around so under 2.5 goals looks tempting while an exact score of 1-1 at 11/2 offers some value.
