Nick Kyrgios can claim a comfortable win over Casper Ruud in the Italian Open and Portland Trail Blazers can respond at Golden State Warriors in Game 2 of their NBA Western Conference Finals series.
Kyrgios takes on Norway’s Ruud in the Italian Open today and he can secure his place in the next round with a straight-sets victory.
The Australian fell at the first hurdle in Madrid in his first clay-court event of the year, but made a strong start in Rome by seeing off Daniil Medvedev 2-1.
Ruud, the world number 76, is a specialist on this surface and the Italian Open is his sixth tournament on clay this year – but he plays mostly on the Challenger Tour and Kyrgios should have too much quality.
The 24-year-old has dropped to 36 in the ATP rankings after a few injury problems, but Kyrgios appears to be working his way back to form and can claim a 2-0 win in this match-up.
The Blazers were well beaten in Game 1 against Golden State Warriors but they can make Game 2 a little closer before the series heads to Portland.
The Warriors remain without Kevin Durant and, in his absence in the first game, Steph Curry stepped up with 36 points, while Portland’s Damian Lillard failed to really make an impact.
Lillard rarely has two bad games in a row, however, and Portland will have been working on a way to manage Curry over the last few days. That may not be enough to grab a series-levelling win but the visitors can give a better account of themselves and beat a +7.5 handicap in the spread.
