Saint Eitenne can claim a win and a clean sheet when they host Montpellier this evening and Dominic Thiem can end Roger Federer’s Madrid Open run.
Saint Etienne win to zero @ 43/20
Saint Etienne have a chance to move into third spot this evening as Lyon don’t play until Sunday, and they should be able to take that opportunity by seeing off visitors Montpellier.
Les Verts claimed a 3-2 win at Monaco in the last round of fixtures to extend their winning streak to four games.
Saint Etienne have been strong at home all season and boast the second best record in Ligue 1, behind only PSG, with 12 victories in 17 games so far.
The visitors did pick up a win at mid-table Strasbourg in their last away game but in general they have struggled with just two victories in their last 11 on the road.
ASSE have won their last three games at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard to nil and can claim another win and a shut-out against Montpellier.
Dominic Thiem 2-0 @ 20/21
Roger Federer takes on Dominic Thiem in the Madrid Open 2019 this afternoon and this meeting with a clay-court specialist may be a step too far for the 20-time Grand Slam winner.
Federer overcame Richard Gasquet comfortably in his first match on clay for three years but then was given a real scare by Gael Monfils in the last 16, as he survived three match points before eventually coming through on a tie break.
Thiem is right up there with the world’s best on clay, and he should be able to come through in straight sets against the Swiss maestro.
