A couple of home teams have caught my eye in today’s Euro 2020 qualifiers and Caroline Garcia can triumph against a former world number one in the Miami Open.
Austria take on near-neighbours Poland in Vienna in one of the standout ties in the opening round of Euro 2020 qualifiers and the hosts look good value to open their account with a win.
Poland have a strong squad, particularly in attack, but have struggled for form recently and are winless in six, with just three victories in 15 games since 2017. Austria have an excellent record on home soil and have lost just once in their last 13 – to giants Brazil – with eight wins during that time.
This should be a competitive clash, but home advantage may prove the difference and, at 13/10, Austria look a solid option this evening.
Slovakia host Hungary and another home win could be on the cards in this match-up.
Hungary don’t travel well and are winless in eight away games with six defeats, including losses to minnows Andorra and Luxembourg. Slovakia crushed Ukraine 4-1 in their last home match and should be too strong for the Hungarians this evening.
The start of the Miami Open has been heavily impacted by rain and my Kristina Mladenovic tip from a few days ago is still yet to be settled (now 31/20 to beat Yafan Wang).
A real highlight in today’s packed schedule sees Caroline Garcia come up against Victoria Azarenka and the French star can see off the former world number one.
Azarenka is still seeking to rediscover her best form and has struggled against the top players, and this looks a good chance for Garcia to get back to winning ways after a pair of losses against American Jennifer Brady.
