Five of the Best from the Weekend

It was another bumper weekend of sporting action, with football, rugby union, cricket and golf taking centre stage.

We take a look at the best tweets in reaction to the weekend events, including Manchester City’s 6-0 thumping of Chelsea on Sunday.

1) Dean steals the limelight

Manchester City were on top form again, with a hammering of Chelsea at the Etihad taking them back to the top of the table.

Sergio Aguero (27/20 Top Goalscorer) scored another hat-trick, to equal Alan Shearer’s Premier League record, while Maurizio Sarri failed to shake Pep Guardiola’s hand at the end of the game.

But despite all that, it was referee Mike Dean who was getting a lot of the attention on social media, after another bizarre penalty reaction!

2) McArthur saved by Aguero

We witnessed two of the most remarkable misses in this weekend’s Premier League football, one on Saturday and the other on Sunday.

James McArthur managed to miss the target from four yards out, with the keeper on the floor, as Crystal Palace (11/2 to finish in Top 10) drew 1-1 at home to West Ham.

But Aguero must have heard people saying ‘miss of the season’ on the highlights and then went ‘hold my beer!’ The Argentinian missed an open goal prior to his hat-trick.

3) Curry spills blood for England

England made it two wins out of two in this year’s Six Nations, with a comprehensive 44-8 victory over France at Twickenham.

Eddie Jones’ men are top of the table but could be without one of their key players for the next test – in Cardiff against Wales on Saturday February 23 (Match Odds – Wales 29/20, England 10/19, Draw 17/1).

4) Broad’s one-hand wonder

England may have been soundly beaten by West Indies in the first two Tests, but at least they have shown some spirit in the final match.

After being bowled for 277 in their first innings, the tourists (5/7 to win the 2019 Ashes series) responded well with the ball and dismissed the Windies for just 154.

Mark Wood was the star with the ball, after taking 5-41 in his 8.2 overs. Moeen Ali also took four scalps, including this one which brought a stunning catch from Stuart Broad.

5) All hail Pebble Beach

The Pebble Beach Pro-Am is one of the favourite events on the PGA Tour, with the pros and celebrities playing together in a high-profile tournament.

Phil Mickelson (32/1 to win The Masters) looks like being this year’s winner, but we will not know for certain until Monday evening (European time) after some horrendous weather in California.

Hail storms delayed the action on Sunday, with darkness finally forcing the organisers to carry the final few holes into a fifth day!
