Saints to take down champs

The Super League has gifted fans with the ultimate grudge match in their opening game of the 2019 season, as St Helens host Wigan Warriors in Thursday night’s curtain raiser.

St Helens to win with -4.5 @ 4/5

It will be a new-look Wigan side that make the trip to Langtree Park this week from the one that lifted the Super League trophy back in October.

Head coach Shaun Wane has moved on to pastures new with the Scottish Rugby Union, while star backs Sam Tomkins and John Bateman have also found new challenges at different clubs.

Saints, although without last season’s Man of Steel Ben Barba, are a much more settled outfit and will be looking to right the wrongs of last season.

This will of course be another fiery affair, but Justin Holbrook’s side might be able to edge this one and secure the bragging rights on home soil against the reigning champions.

Leeds Rhinos to win @ 9/5

Leeds endured a season to forget in 2018 as they suffered their now trending slump after winning the Super League title the year before.

The same occurred in 2016 after they won the treble the previous season but the Rhinos have a knack of bouncing back.

A return for skipper and star centre Kallum Watkins from injury will give the side a huge lift, while Tui Lolohea, Konrad Hurrell and Trent Merrin have all bolstered the Leeds squad from the NRL.

Added to that new coach Dave Furner at Headingley, Leeds might just be able to get off to a flying start when they make the trip to Warrington on Saturday.

It will be a tough ask on the road against last season’s grand finalists, but Leeds might be able to jump on any hangover the Wire have after last year’s efforts to reach Old Trafford.
