Big Joe’s tips for the Thyestes Chase

We hope we find you all well, it’s been a decent start to 2019 on the tipping front with plenty of winners already and 2018 finished on a high with our last tip of the year winning at 12/1! It was of course Kemboy at Leopardstown in the feature race of the meeting, a fine performance on the day it means he’s now a live contender for this year’s Gold Cup.

The Thyestes Chase takes place this Thursday at Gowran Park and we’ve got a couple of decent priced fancies for this tricky handicap.

Some Neck is the current gamble of the race at time of writing and he does tick a lot of boxes. Coming from such a powerful stable as Willie Mullins is an obvious plus with the trainer having such a good record in the race.

He’s only eight year old so still unexposed in this sphere and the ground won’t cause a problem as he’s proven on all. He won last time up at Punchestown beating Blow By Blow in a thriller. Connections will be happy with that run and you’d have to think they believe, they come here with a massive chance.

Not having won over the distance is a worry although there is no reason to believe he won’t stay. If he encounters no bad luck during the race, he should be bang there by the finish.

Invitation Only looks like Willie Mullins main hope this year. Still only eight years old he is a horse with plenty of decent form in the book.

Only having run over three miles once is not ideal but he was in the process of running a career best when he was hampered and unseated in one of the most infamous races in recent memory.

The Punchestown race that a lot of followers will remember was dramatic to say the least and in amongst all the drama was Invitation Only and it can’t be forgotten how well he raced that day. He’s had a decent prep in Tramore so should be straight for this test. He will have a heavy weight to carry but he looks the real class act and he is definitely worth a bet at double figures.

So we’re throwing two darts at the race and hopefully our good form continues. Looking ahead to Saturday we get more Cheltenham Festival clues and hopefully it’ll lead to a clearer picture for March. Best of luck with whatever you’re backing this week and remember to follow our Instagram if you’re not already, follow bigjoeshorsetips on Insta.
