Roger Federer suffered a surprise loss to Kei Nishikori in his ATP World Tour Finals opener but should be able to keep his title bid alive with a win over Dominic Thiem this evening.
Federer to win 2-0 @ 5/6
Thiem also lost his opener in London, going down 2-0 to Kevin Anderson, so this match is a must-win affair for both players.
Federer’s excellent record in the tournament could prove the difference in this battle as the Swiss star has only failed to progress beyond the group stages once in 15 attempts and is a six-time champion.
Thiem is also less comfortable on hard courts and although he leads the world number three 2-1 in their head-to-head, his one defeat came on this surface.
Federer lost his opener in the ATP Finals five years ago and went on to win his next two matches to progress.
He also hasn’t lost three consecutive matches in 15 years and the veteran could well respond with a straight sets win.
Houston Rockets to win @ 27/20
Denver Nuggets made an excellent start to the season but have hit a rough patch and could be heading for a fourth straight defeat when Houston Rockets visit overnight.
The Rockets have endured a difficult start and still have a losing record of 5-7 but they have won four of their last six and have been better on the road with a 4-3 record.
Denver also have a few injury issues and at odds against, the Rockets look good value to claim a victory at the Pepsi Center.
