Smith can inspire Villa to away win

The unpredictable world of the Championship makes a swift return in midweek and in a league where any team can beat another, there’s plenty of value on offer.

Here are what we believe to be the best bets going into Tuesday and Wednesday night’s fixture list…

Aston Villa to win at Norwich @ 41/20

Dean Smith got his reign as Aston Villa boss off to a winning start at the weekend, with a 1-0 home success over Swansea on Saturday. His first task looks to have been to shore up the backline and that opening game bodes well for Villa.

Smith’s next test is to improve an away league record that reads: played six – one win, three draws and two defeats.

Now they face a Norwich team who sum up the unpredictability of the league. The Canaries lost 1-0 at home to Stoke before the international break, before bouncing back with a win at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

But, a lack of goals at Carrow Road, two in their last four matches, will give Villa hope that they can claim a win on Tuesday to move them level on points with their opponents.

West Brom to beat Derby @ Evens

West Brom remain on course for promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, with the Baggies just one point behind the top two.

A defeat at Wigan was a setback, but they have a quick chance to respond when they face Midlands rivals Derby on Wednesday.

Since a shock opening day defeat to Bolton, Darren Moore’s men have won all five of their home league games, scoring 19 goals in the process.

Opponents Derby have not won any of their last three away league fixtures, especially disappointing as they were against teams in the bottom half – Rotherham, Bolton and QPR.

If you wanted to cover the West Brom win with another bet, then the 23/20 for Dwight Gayle to score at anytime looks real value. The on-loan Newcastle man has scored seven goals in their last five home league games.

Bristol City to beat Hull @ 5/6

It may be odds-on, but Bristol City to beat Hull at Ashton Gate looks to be as close to a ‘sure thing’ that you will find in the Championship.

Although they are not firing on all cylinders, the Robins have only lost one of their last four home matches and that includes impressive wins over Sheffield United and Blackburn. Plus they got back to winning ways with a 1-0 success at Brentford at the weekend.

In contrast, Hull have failed to win any of their last six and find themselves in the bottom three with just nine points from 13 games.

A defeat on Wednesday could be the final straw for the Tigers owners, who are reportedly losing patience with manager Nigel Adkins.
