Mahrez to make perfect start at City

Manchester City can start the 2018/19 season by sealing their first Community Shield victory at Wembley when they take on FA Cup winners Chelsea on Sunday.

City, who ran away with last season’s Premier League and are 5/7 to win the title again this term, have won the campaign’s curtain-raiser four times but never at the national stadium. Their most recent victory came six years ago at Villa Park when Wembley was in use for the Olympic Games.

City beat Chelsea in the 2012 Community Shield and are 11/10 to win Sunday’s match after 90 minutes even though a host of their World Cup stars will not be involved in the match.

Mahrez 7/1 to score the first goal

Pep Guardiola has enjoyed a relatively quiet summer although he has added Riyad Mahrez to his squad and the former Leicester City star is set to feature on Sunday.

However, Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling will definitely not be involved after helping Belgium and England respectively reach the semi-finals in Russia.

Ederson, Vincent Kompany, John Stones, Fabian Delph, Nicolas Otamendi, David Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, Fernandinho, Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero have all returned to training but may not be risked this weekend.

City 12/5 to win and both teams to score

In contrast Chelsea have endured a turbulent summer with Antonio Conte’s departure from Stamford Bridge not being confirmed until just three weeks ago.

Ex-Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri has succeeded his compatriot but the futures of several key players including Eden Hazard, Willian and Thibaut Courtois remain unclear.

There could be goals on Sunday though with the Chelsea strikers set to come up against a young City defence.

After struggling at times last term, Alvaro Morata will be particularly keen to get the new campaign off to a good start and the Spaniard is 11/5 to score at any time at Wembley.
