Fabio Fognini takes on Federico Delbonis in the last eight of the ATP Bastad event today and he should be able to come through this test without dropping a set.
The Italian needed three sets to see off home hopeful Mikael Ymer in his first match in Sweden in his first match on clay since Wimbledon came to an end.
Fognini struggled in the first set but found his groove as the match progressed and claimed a 1-6 6-4 6-2 win. Now the world number 15 has managed to get through that first match after a change in surface he should be stronger coming up against Argentine Delbonis and I’m expecting him to get the job done in two sets today.
Casper Ruud produced a huge shock to beat David Ferrer yesterday but may find Richard Gasquet too big a step up in quality.
Gasquet enjoyed a solid campaign on clay before the grass-court season, winning nine of his 14 matches, and looked strong when beating Gerald Melzer 2-1 in his opener in Bastad.
Ruud will have taken confidence from his win over Ferrer, particularly after fighting back from 3-5 down to claim the first set 7-5, but Gasquet could be too strong for the youngster today and can secure a straight-sets victory.
