Juan Martin del Potro takes on Feliciano Lopez in the second round of Wimbledon today and he should be able to come through with relative ease.
Del Potro to win 3-0 @ 47/20
Del Potro reached the semi-finals at the French Open, matching his best ever performance in Paris, and played just one warm-up match on grass ahead of Wimbledon.
The Argentine’s lack of preparation didn’t seem to have any impact on his SW19 opener as he breezed past Germany’s Peter Gojowczyk in straight sets – facing break points in just two of his service games – and he can back that up with another 3-0 win.
Lopez did claim an eye-catching win over David Goffin at Queen’s Club and can be a dangerous opponent, but Del Potro should be too strong this afternoon and I’m anticipating a 3-0 success for the fifth seed.
Muguruza to beat Van Uytvanck 2-0 @ 5/8
In the women’s tournament, defending champion Garbine Muguruza made light work of Naomi Broady in her opener and can back that up with another 2-0 success against Belgium’s Alison van Uytvanck.
Muguruza dropped just one set at SW19 as she claimed the title last year. It may not be so straightforward for the Spaniard this time around, but she can progress through her first few matches without going the distance and should have too much quality for Van Uytvanck.
