Mexico’s win over Germany has put the pressure on Group F rivals Sweden and South Korea, making Monday’s clash between the two almost a must-win affair already.
Sweden to win @ 21/20
The Swedes impressed in qualifying as they finished ahead of the Netherlands before beating Italy over two legs and they can get their tournament off to a flying start with a victory over South Korea [13:00 KO BST]
Janne Andersson’s men go into the game winless in their last four games but they have managed two successive clean sheets and their solid defence will be key to their hopes of progress in Russia.
Goals may be an issue for Sweden and they do look a little light in attack without the now retired Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but South Korea struggle for clean sheets and have only managed two in their last six games – against Latvia and Bolivia.
The East Asians have lost four of their last six friendly fixtures and Sweden may have a bit too much quality today, so I’m backing the Europeans to claim a victory.
Raheem Sterling to score anytime @ 8/5
Manchester City man Sterling was guilty of wasting a few chances during England’s warm-up match with Nigeria but he was getting himself into the right positions.
England face Tunisia in the last match today [19:00 KO BST] and the North Africans will focus on keeping Harry Kane quiet. Kane may well grab a goal regardless, but a few chances will fall to other Three Lions forwards and Sterling could well profit with a goal as he looks to silence his critics.
