Sunderland set for Derby misery

Sunderland host Middlesbrough in a Wear-Tees derby on Saturday as the Black Cats bid to haul themselves off the foot of the table.

The Stadium of Light outfit suffered a damaging defeat at Bolton in midweek and are now three points adrift of safety.

Derby encounters can bring out the best in even the poorest of sides but Chris Coleman’s men looked woefully low on confidence at the Macron Stadium and Boro could well be set to pile more misery on their North East neighbours.

A Middlesbrough win pays out at 21/20 and looks to be the best option in this Championship fixture on Saturday afternoon.

Before that we have one fixture on Friday night as Sheffield United head to Hull City.  The Tigers are hovering just above the drop zone and the Blades could push into the play-off places with a win so there is a lot at stake for both sides.

Hull have drawn four of their last six at home and another stalemate could be on the cards in this one at 11/5, although that result wouldn’t particularly help either side.

Aston Villa have a huge injury list with up to eight players missing for their trip to Sheffield Wednesday but they have started to look like real promotion contenders in recent weeks and can claim another vital three points.  Wednesday are meandering towards a mid-table finish and at 29/20 Villa look good value to claim a victory.

Birmingham hoist Barnsley in a crucial relegation six pointer and loser will almost certainly end the weekend in the bottom three.  The Tykes are currently in the drop zone but will leapfrog their hosts with a win, although a midweek home defeat by Burton does little to suggest they can get a result at St Andrew’s.

Barnsley brought in Jose Morais as their new manager earlier this month but after a defeat in his first game in charge against the Brewers he doesn’t seem to have come with a new boss bounce and the 23/20 on a home win looks a solid option.

Bolton’s win over the Black Cats lifted them four points clear of the bottom three to give them some breathing space for the first time in a long, long time. The Wanderers head to Norwich on Saturday and they did claim a win over the Canaries earlier in the season, but away from home their form has been abysmal.

Phil Parkinson’s men have the worst record on the road in the division with just one win and eight points to show from 16 games.  Bolton have only managed nine goals in that time and a Norwich win to zero at 27/20 in this match-up.

Leeds were somewhat fortunate over the 90 minutes to get a draw at Derby in midweek but their luck may run out when they host a back in form Brentford this weekend.  The Bees have won their last two in a row and are 3/1 to win with both teams to score at Elland Road.

Preston have come through a tough run of games without defeat as they’ve drawn with Wolves, Brentford and Villa and should be fairly confident ahead of Ipswich’s visit.

However, the Tractor Boys have shown some grit of late with just two defeats in their last seven – against Wolves and Cardiff – and may be able to claim a draw at Deepdale, with a 1-1 result at 21/4 having some real appeal.

Derby have hit a bit of a rough patch and Saturday’s trip to Reading looks a good opportunity to get back to winning ways.  The Royals have lost four of their last six and the Rams are 13/10 to hand them another defeat.

Burton’s win at Barnsley will have provided a real confidence boost but they may well come unstuck against mid-table Millwall. The Lions have won their last three Championship games on their travels and are 11/10 to claim all three points.

QPR’s home form has kept them clear of danger this season and they can see off Nottingham Forest to zero at 9/4.

The late game sees Wolves head to Fulham in a really tough one to call.  The Cottagers have won seven on the spin at Craven Cottage in the Championship but the visitors are unbeaten away in the league since October and a draw with goals at 33/10 could offer some value in this fixture.

We’re treated to another derby on Sunday as Cardiff host Bristol City.  The Bluebirds have had the better of this fixture in recent years, particularly in Wales where they have won seven of the last nine meetings, and a home win at 23/20 looks the best option.
