Shakhtar Donetsk take on Roma in the last 16 of the Champions League this evening and the Italian outfit may be able to get a result in Ukraine.
Shakhtar have played just one game since their winter break ended and although that was a 5-0 win over Odessa, they may not be as well prepared for this fixture as their Serie A opponents.
Roma’s priorities have perhaps changed since they were last in European action as they have fallen away in the battle for the Scudetto and now may be a bit more focused on their Champions League commitments.
Shakhtar were excellent at home during the group stage, with wins over Feyenoord, Napoli and Manchester City, although the latter had already qualified as group winners before that match at the OSC Metalist stadium in Kharkiv.
However, Roma head into this fixture on the back of a three-game winning run after ending a rough patch and their away result have been fairly solid all season.
The Giallorossi managed a draw at Chelsea in the group stage and qualified ahead of Atletico Madrid, so after back-to-back away wins they should be in confident mood for their trip to Ukraine.
Shakhtar will be well aware they probably need to win at home if they are to stand a chance of reaching the quarter-finals and that could give Roma chances going forward.
With players like Radja Nainggolan, Diego Perotti and Edin Dzeko in attack they have plenty of players capable of scoring and, at a big price, the Serie A side look worth the risk in this Champions League clash.
