While the World Cup was entertaining Down Under, there’s something special about the first week of the new Super League season.
The 2018 season gets under way on Thursday and last year’s Grand Final winners Leeds will travel to the Halliwell Jones stadium to take on the Wire.
Warrington have a point to prove after a terrible campaign last year, but they have a number of injury worries and backing Leeds at 5/4 appears a great bet to start the weekend.
Hull FC are also in action and they will welcome Huddersfield to East Yorkshire and they are expected to make a fast start.
Lee Radford’s side have impressed in pre-season and they should take advantage of Huddersfield’s injury woes. The Black and Whties can be backed at odds of 10/19 to win the first half but they could also cover the -8.5 FT handicap.
For the first time in a number of years, there is a doubt about Wigan’s Grand Final chances. They travel to Salford on Friday but the Red Devils are under new ownership and will want to start the year with a bang. They are 4/5 on the +11 handicap market and Wigan might have to settle for a close victory at the AJ Bell Stadium.
St Helens also entertain Castleford on Friday and they are 5/7 to win and get revenge after losing in the play-off semi-finals. Hull KR are 5/4 to win on the same night against Wakefield and that is a good price considering their home record in the last few years.
The final game of the weekend sees Widnes take on Catalans and the French side should have too much and 10/13 seems a fair price this weekend.
