Chiefs out to repel Oakland Raiders

The AFC West title race has become one of the stories of the season and will take another twist on Sunday when two of the three teams tied at the top of the division meet at Arrowhead.

The Kansas City Chiefs were being anointed AFC champions early on in the year after their fast start but have stumbled badly over the last six weeks and are in danger of falling flat on their face.

The Chiefs’ troubles have allowed the LA Chargers and the Raiders to close the gap and they now all sit at 6-6 heading in to the closing weeks of the season.

Sunday’s meeting between the Raiders and the Chiefs is therefore massive and I’m getting behind Kansas City to get back to winning ways.

The Chiefs lost to the New York Jets last week (one of four correct predictions by yours truly) but showed enough on offense to suggest they are getting back to their best.

Quarterback Alex Smith had been struggling but threw for four touchdowns in NYC and against a weak Oakland defense can continue his recovery.

The Chiefs are the 20/41 favourites on the moneyline, a safer choice than looking at the spread betting given the game between these two in Oakland was settled by one point.

Elsewhere, the Philadelphia Eagles look generously priced at 11/10 to get back to winning ways at the LA Rams.

The Eagles slipped up in Seattle last week and this is another tricky trip out west for Carson Wentz and co.

The Rams are on a roll but are going up against the top rushing defence in the NFL, meaning they can not rely on running back Todd Gurley to dig them out of a hole if the going gets tough.

Speaking of mean defenses, two of the top six collide on Sunday when Minnesota go to Carolina.

The Vikings shut down Atlanta on the road last week and could well do the same against the Panthers, who can not rely on the unpredictable Cam Newton.

A Vikings win is 20/29 but the pick for this one is under 41 points at 50/53 in the game total market.

Finally, Sunday night football will not be for the faint-hearted when Pittsburgh and Baltimore renew their rivalry.

The Steelers clash with Cincinnati last week was ugly and they could be in for another tough encounter against a Ravens defence that takes no prisoners.

Baltimore have come on strong recently, particularly on the defensive side of the ball so taking the Steelers to score under 24 points at 10/13 seems like a solid choice.
