Burnley were incredible at home last season but they haven’t managed to replicate that kind of form this season and could come unstuck against Newcastle at Turf Moor this evening.
The Clarets are winless in their last three games at home; going down on penalties in the Carabao Cup to Leeds before draws with Huddersfield and West Ham, who played the majority of the match with 10 men.
Newcastle’s away form hasn’t been particularly impressive either and they’ve managed just one win in four Premier League attempts so far.
However, Rafael Benitez’s men were arguably unlucky to be held at Southampton in their last road game and the manager will be demanding a response as they were poor against Crystal Palace last time out – despite the fact they claimed a win.
Burnley are also without keeper Tom Heaton, a long-term injury victim, and they do look a little more suspect at the back without their skipper.
Striker Chris Wood is rated as a doubt and if he does miss out they could struggle to create chances, while Jonathan Walters and Dean Marney are also unavailable.
In contrast, Newcastle have no major concerns with Paul Dummett their only absentee.
A Newcastle win at 29/20 is my top bet in this fixture and a 1-0 win for the visitors at 6/1 also appeals. Burnley tend to focus on keeping games as tight as possible and Benitez’s men may take a while to make a breakthrough, but they should still be able to claim all three points this evening.
