Daily Tips – Kvitova can end Williams’ US Open bid

Petra Kvitova produced an exceptional performance to overcome Garbine Muguruza in her last match and now faces another huge test in the shape of Venus Williams at the US Open.

It has been the year of the comeback in tennis and both Kvitova and Williams have been a part of it.

Williams reached the Australian Open and Wimbledon finals after an eight-year absence from major showpieces while Kvitova has recovered from a career-threatening injury.

Williams has been in impressive form in New York, but has still dropped two sets, while Kvitova has reached the quarter-finals with four 2-0 wins despite coming up against some quality players, having downed Caroline Garcia and Alize Cornet en route to the last eight.

Kvitova is the 20/31 favourite and should be able to claim the victory, but may drop her first set of the tournament and a 2-1 win for the Czech at 33/10 is my top bet for this match.

In the men’s tournament, American hopeful Sam Querrey comes up against 28th seed Kevin Anderson in a battle of the big-servers. The pair met at Wimbledon in the last 16 and Querrey emerged victorious in a five-set epic.

Querrey should be able to claim the win today in his home Grand Slam, but again this has the potential to go the distance and the 5/1 on offer for a 3-2 win for the 17th seed appeals.

South Africa’s Anderson has actually won the last two hard court meetings the pair have contested, including a win in Montreal after their Wimbledon battle, but with a home crowd behind him, Querrey can come out on top.
