The grass court season is now under way ahead of Wimbledon next month and there are some top players contesting the ATP event in Stuttgart.
Roger Federer is the star name in the field as he takes on home hopeful Tommy Haas after opting against competing in the French Open, with the Swiss maestro 1/20 to win or 1/4 to come out on top 2-0.
Lucas Pouille offers a bit more value in his clash with Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff. Frenchman Pouille is 10/17 to win the match but he should be able to progress in comfortable fashion in his first grass court match of the season.
Aside from a strong showing in Monaco, Pouille had a fairly disappointing clay campaign but he should fare better on grass after reaching the quarter-finals of Wimbledon last year. The world number 16 beat Juan Martin del Potro at SW19 last year on his way to the last eight, and should be able to overcome Struff today.
The pair met at Indian Wells in March and Pouille made light work of the German, winning 6-3 6-2 in an hour and 12 minutes. It may not be quite so simple today with Struff on home soil but I’m still expecting a straight sets win for 23-year-old Pouille, who rose to a career high 13 in the ATP rankings earlier this year. Today’s top bet is a 2-0 success for Pouille, which pays out at 13/10.
