Caroline Garcia is the last remaining Frenchwoman in the French Open draw and she can book a last four spot with a win over second seed Karolina Pliskova today.
The home crowd had appeared to pin their hopes on Kristina Mladenovic but Garcia now carries the torch alone but she does face a huge test in Pliskova, the world number three.
However, the Czech star is less comfortable on clay and is definitely a hard court player, with her best Grand Slam results coming in Australia and the US. Prior to this year Pliskova had never been beyond the second round in Paris and could well come unstuck against the home hopeful.
This match is a good contrast in styles as the aggressive Pliskova comes up against an awkward and unorthodox Garcia. The two players have both won twice in four meetings between the two but Garcia came out on top in their only clash on clay, and is the more suited of the two to the surface in Paris.
In the ATP tournament Stan Wawrinka looks to be the banker of the day against Marin Cilic. Wawrinka is yet to drop a set in the French Open and the former champion has perhaps flown under the radar as everyone focuses on Rafael Nadal’s incredible displays. Wawrinka is 20/49 to secure the win or 9/5 to win 3-0.
