Borussia Dortmund have endured a difficult season by their standards although they can end it with some silverware on Saturday when they take on Eintracht Frankfurt in the DFB Pokal final.
BVB managed to overcome Bayern Munich in the last four and enjoyed a strong finish to the season as they went unbeaten in their final six games.
Dortmund lost just three times in their final 14 fixtures and one of those defeats came at the hands of Bayern, with the other two in the Champions League against Monaco in what were incredibly difficult circumstances.
In contrast, Frankfurt impressed in the first half of the campaign and were involved in the battle for Champions League football at the turn of the year before tailing off to finish in 11th spot.
They can take some heart from fighting back from 2-0 down to draw with RB Leipzig in the final round of fixtures, but with just three wins in their last 18 games – one of which came in extra time – they head into the final in woeful form.
Frankfurt, who are 25/4 to win on Saturday, beat BVB back in November before Dortmund won their home fixture in the Bundesliga 3-1 in April
The Westfalenstadion side managed just one clean sheet in their last 10 fixtures and Frankfurt only failed to score twice in their final eight. The league clashes between the two sides also yielded seven goals so we should see a few goals when these sides face off in Berlin.
Frankfurt’s final two games produced over four goal while Dortmund won 4-3 in the final round of fixtures – and I’m hoping we will be treated to another goal-fest.
