Tottenham host Arsenal in the late kick off on Sunday in the final north London derby at White Hart Lane and I’m backing the hosts to secure a crucial win.
Of course, there’s much more at stake just than local bragging rights to play for today as Spurs remain in the hunt for the title and Arsenal are still battling for a top-four spot and that kind of pressure can have an impact.
That aside, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have looked inspired in recent weeks and there’s no reason for that to change against the Gunners.
Spurs head into the game seeking a 16th successive win at White Hart Lane and they’ve been in devastating form on home soil of late, hitting 23 goals in their last six games and conceding just three during that time.
Arsenal have picked up three wins on the spin going into today’s derby after a tough spell but on their travels results have been less impressive.
Arsene Wenger’s men ended a run of three straight defeats away from home with a 1-0 win at Middlesbrough in their last match on the road but Spurs will provide a much sterner test.
Both sides need to win and a draw doesn’t really do either any good regardless of results elsewhere and we should see a few goals in this showpiece Premier League fixture, especially if the deadlock is broken early.
Spurs have won their last eight Premier League matches in succession and have scored at least two goals in all but one of those matches, while Arsenal have only failed to score once in their last 27 matches in all competitions.
With that in mind the 6/5 on a Spurs win with over 2.5 goals looks a solid bet but I’m going to take the bigger price of 5/2 for a home win with over 3.5 goals as my top bet for this clash. Spurs have scored at least four in four of their last six home games and Arsenal should be able to find a way through at some point, despite the hosts’ strong defensive record on home soil.
A 3-1 home win appeals in the correct score market at 12/1 and Dele Alli is worth a mention at 5/4 to score at anytime as he tends to step up on the big occasions, having found the back of the net in the FA Cup defeat to Chelsea earlier this month.
