England impressed in defeat against Germany in midweek and they should be far too strong for Lithuania at Wembley in today’s qualifier.
The loss in Germany was Gareth Southgate’s first defeat since taking charge of the Three Lions but the performance was encouraging regardless and they were arguably unlucky not to get a result in Dortmund.
England also boast a formidable record at Wembley, with only the Netherlands and Spain denying them victories in their last 16 outings.
Lithuania have an away record that can only be described as horrendous. They’ve not managed a win in any of their last 14 away games and their last victory came at minnows San Marino in 2014.
During that 14-game run they have picked up just four draws and scored only three goals, falling to heavy defeats against the likes of Czech Republic, Slovakia, Russia and England themselves, who claimed a 4-0 win in a Euro qualifier in March 2015.
Southgate should stick with the 3-4-3 formation he used against Germany and if so England will see plenty of chances come their way this afternoon. My top bet is for England to beat a -2 handicap at 5/6, and the 25/4 on offer for another 4-0 win also appeals in the correct score market.
