Spurs‘ Europa League loss at Gent following a defeat at Liverpool has led to talk of a crisis of confidence among the squad ahead of their trip to Fulham in the FA Cup fifth round today.
Tottenham head to Craven Cottage without a win in their last four away games but they should be able to progress to the next round, as any talk of a slump seems a little premature.
Gent are a good side, especially at home, and there is no shame in losing at Liverpool. Prior to that they edged past Middlesbrough 1-0 at home and drew at Sunderland, and with both of those teams fighting for survival neither of those results are particularly damning.
Granted, if Spurs do slip up at Fulham there may be something in the notion they’re struggling for confidence but a win would put them back on track and the latter scenario looks more likely to me.
Fulham are in great form on home soil with four successive victories but they had to work hard in their most recent matches against Nottingham Forest and Wigan, who are both struggling at the wrong end of the table.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino will almost certainly rotate his squad but he will still put out a team capable of grabbing the win.
Tottenham have drifted out to 10/11 after their Europa League defeat and that price is worth taking on, particularly if you’re putting together an accumulator today.
However, as Spurs have struggled for goals lately the Cottagers should be able to hold out until the break so the draw/away result at 15/4 in the half-time/full-time market is my top bet for this clash.
In Serie A Roma can maintain their incredible 10-match winning run on home soil against Torino. The Giallorossi were in action on Thursday as they brushed aside Villarreal 4-0 in the Europa League and they can record another win to nil today.
Il Toro do carry a threat going forward, with Andrea Belotti in a rich vein of form, but as Roma have managed three successive clean sheets and four in their last six home outings I expect their defence to hold firm again today, with Roma priced at 31/20 to win to zero.
