The standout game in today’s Premier League fixtures is undoubtedly Liverpool’s home clash with Chelsea.
The match could have a huge bearing on the title race as victory for the visitors would almost certainly spell the end of any lingering challenge from Anfield.
A Liverpool win would see them close the gap to seven points, giving them a glimmer of hope in the fight for the top prize, and potentially allow Arsenal and Spurs to get a bit closer to the Stamford Bridge side.
Unfortunately for the Reds they head into this pivotal game in their season in poor form.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have managed just one win in their last eight games in all competitions, at League Two Plymouth in the FA Cup, and have now tasted three successive defeats.
In contrast, Chelsea are ticking along nicely with four wins in a row after Spurs ended their 10-match winning run at the start of January.
Liverpool may have been struggling of late but they do have a good record against the other top-six sides this season – they remain unbeaten in those six games so far – and claimed wins over Arsenal and Chelsea earlier in the campaign before seeing off Manchester City on New Year’s Eve.
There is almost a feeling of this being the last chance for the hosts in terms of their silverware aspirations this term after dropping out of both cup competitions, and I expect a response from Klopp’s men, but they may have to settle for a draw.
A point would suit Chelsea at Anfield and with that in mind the 9/4 on the teams cancelling each other out is my top bet for this match.
If you’re looking for a goalscorer bet, Eden Hazard appeals for Chelsea at 27/10 to score at anytime as he tends to impress on the big occasions.
James Milner at 19/4 could be the way to go for a Liverpool scorer as the midfielder-turned-left-back takes their penalties.
