Premier League Preview – Spurs look too strong for Hornets

Tottenham look good to continue their recent upturn in form when they travel to Watford on Sunday for the first Premier League game of 2017.

The Lilywhites made it three wins in a row with Wednesday’s 4-1 victory at Southampton and will be confident of securing a similar result when they step out at Vicarage Road.

Tenth-placed Watford have been hit and miss in recent weeks but having beaten Manchester United at home earlier this season, they will be looking to produce a big performance.

A scrappy 1-1 draw last time out at home to Crystal Palace did nothing to appease Hornets fans, with the side winning just one of their last six. Watford’s home form has been generally good and victory for Walter Mazzarri‘s side is a tempting 9/2.

Daryl Janmaat and Valon Behrami are both likely to miss out due to injury while Miguel Britos is suspended, but Troy Deeney could be restored to the starting XI after scoring from the bench against the Eagles.

Deeney’s penalty was his 100th goal for the club and he is 57/20 to add to his tally at anytime while the Hornets are 15/2 to score another spot-kick.

Tottenham seem to have rediscovered their mojo in recent weeks and with the side sitting fifth in the table, they know another win could move them into the top four.

Spurs are likely to welcome back Toby Alderweireld from illness for the suspended Jan Vertonghen while Kieran Trippier could get a rare start in place of the banned Kyle Walker.

Spurs have won on their last six trips to the Vic and are the clear 2/3 favourites to extend that run while the draw is 57/20.

A repeat of last season’s 2-1 away win is 15/2 with ComeOn! and with four of those recent victories coming by one goal, Tottenham to win by a single strike is 39/20.

However, their rampant form at Southampton means goals could well be on the agenda and over 3.5 goals is 47/20 while an away win with both teams to score is a tempting 49/20.

Harry Kane will also be relishing the opportunity to take on the Hornets’ defence and is 3/1 to score first in a game that should see Spurs start the year with a decent win.
