Cardiff City and Wigan Athletic are currently in the bottom three alongside Rotherham but there are a number of other candidates for the drop, some of whom are currently well away from the relegation trapdoor.

A relatively obvious suggestion at 19/10 with ComeOn! to be relegated are Burton Albion, with the Brewers currently in their first season in the second tier of English football.

Nigel Clough’s side enjoyed a post-promotion bounce, opening the campaign with two defeats in seven league games, but more recently a lack of goals has seen them struggle to put points on the board.

Scoreless in five of their last seven Championship outings, a lack of quality firepower could eventually see Albion down in the bottom three, with Lucas Akins having found the net just once in his last nine outings.

They are currently a point outside the drop zone and need to find their form in front of goal to avoid being dragged further down in the coming months.

Three points better off than Burton are Brentford, who have just one win to their name in their last eight league games.

Much rests on the shoulders of striker Scott Hogan – 9/2 to be the Championship’s top scorer this season – who is up among the leading marksman in the division after overcoming long-term injury problems.

However, should the former Rochdale man suffer fresh fitness issues, the Bees are a little lacking in sting in attack and 18/1 to be relegated could be worth a little look, even if the expertise of head coach Dean Smith suggests they should have just enough to avoid the drop.

Six points clear of danger as things stand are Bristol City, but the Robins have had their wings clipped in recent weeks, winning just one of their last seven Championship games.

Which way City’s season goes from here on in depends largely on the future form of loanee Tammy Abraham, who has nine league goals to his name, but who has only found the net once in his last seven games.

The Chelsea youngster needs to rediscover his shooting boots sooner rather than later, otherwise a price of 33/1 to drop down to League One will be shortening as the season progresses.
