There’s plenty of games to sink our proverbial teeth into this weekend as the Spanish Primera Division plays out its last round of matches before the international break. Barcelona and Real Madrid face relatively straight forward ties against Celta Vigo and Eibar respectively whilst Atletico Madrid make the trip south to a struggling Valencia CF.
Life without Messi
For Las Blaugranes, the absence of star striker Lionel Messi certainly didn’t leave them wanting in the final third of the pitch last weekend. Luis Enrique’s side won emphatically 5-0 at Sporting’s El Molinón stadium with Messi’s partners in crime Luis Suarez and Neymar having a hand in the goals.
Against this Sunday’s opponents Celta Vigo, expect the scoreline to be of a similar fashion against a side who’ve already shipped four against the likes of Atletico Madrid at home earlier in the season. With Eduardo Berizzo’s men also drawing blanks on two occasions in front of their own crowd this year, expect the Catalonians to net three or four this weekend with no reply.
For Barca’s immediate rivals Madrid, a match-up against eight placed Eibar may be a source of more upheaval for Zinedine Zidane’s men.
Three straight draws in La Liga and the Champions League has left the 11 time UCL winners in somewhat of a rut. And after Andre Schürrle’s deserved late equaliser for Dortmund on Tuesday, the Madrid giants will be desperate for a positive result this weekend to get them back in their stride.
We’re backing Real to end their slump this weekend with a narrow win at the Bernebau and thus will be plumping for a 2-0 win at 7/1 with ComeOn!
In other games…
Gary Neville’s ex-employers Valencia grabbed a much-needed win at the hands of Leganes last weekend but we have serious doubts about their chances against Atletico this Saturday. Whilst Diego Simeone’s men may be slightly fatigued after locking horns with Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night, we still feel they’ll have enough about them to finish the job in the Mestalla stadium this weekend. Atletico to win to nil at 7/4 is our tip for this one.
Elsewhere in Spain’s top tier, basement boys Osasuna play host to this year’s surprise package Las Palmas. With over 2.5 goals occurring in all but one of Las Palmas’ games this year, we’re backing them to win and over 2.5 goals to be scored in the game at a juicy 11/4.
