F1: Hungary Grand Prix Preview

It’s tight at the top going into this weekend’s Hungary Grand Prix with Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg both battling it out for the number 1 spot.

Despite German Rosberg garnering an early lead in this year’s F1 campaign, three time World Champion Hamilton has slowly clawed back the points gap between him and his teammate and can look to reclaim top position at the Hungagoring circuit in Budapest.

After such an unwavering start to the 2016 season, Rosberg has had his fair share of on-the-track difficulties in the summer months with his most recent being the penalty he received at the British Grand Prix due to his team breaching radio transmission rules.

According to the regulation in F1 that states “The driver must drive the car alone and unaided”, the messages the 31-year-old received whilst on the track at Silverstone related to his faulty gearbox were deemed to be in breach of that.

Rosberg is second favourite at 37/20 to win this weekend’s Hungary Grand Prix whilst his teammate Hamilton is unsurprisingly favourite and can be grabbed for a rather short price of 10/11.

About the track

Whilst not a traditional ‘power circuit’, the many twists and turns on offer at Hungaroring have made for some exciting races in the past. For those of you old enough to remember, the 1990 Grand Prix in which Thierry Boutsen pipped Ayrton Senna to first place by 0.3 seconds is probably the race that will live longest in the memory in Budapest.

Where does the betting value lie?

18-year-old wonder kid Max Verstappen is 11/10 to make the podium this weekend and judging by his impressive performance at the British Grand Prix where he finished 2nd, we fully expect him to be there or there-abouts yet again in Budapest.

Another potential piece of value we’ve spotted is in the head 2 head market, where Lewis Hamilton can be backed at 1/2 to finish ahead of teammate Nico Rosberg.

Whilst on the face of it, rather a short price, such is the ground the British driver has made in the past few races on his teammate, not to mention the mishaps Rosberg has had, including his collision with Hamilton in Austria and again in Barcelona, we fully believe the momentum will be behind Hamilton in this one and with his eyes on reclaiming a number 1 spot he firmly believes should be his, are backing him to run out Hungary Grand Prix winner on Sunday.

Betting Tip: Lewis Hamilton to win (head 2 head v Nico Rosberg) – 1/2

Betting Tip: Max Verstappen to finish in the top 3/make the podium – 11/10

Betting Tip: Lewis Hamilton to win – 10/11
