Three Premier League betting tips for the weekend

mahrezThe Premier League has become the gift that keeps on giving this season. After seeing an all-action affair at White Hart Lane on Saturday in Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Arsenal and surprise package Leicester City continue to defy the odds at the top of the table, we take a look at this weekend’s round of fixtures and offer out some ‘expert’ advice and tips.

Leicester City v Newcastle

These two sides couldn’t be having more contrasting seasons if they tried. With Leicester’s crucial 1-0 win over Watford last Saturday putting them 5 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, they’ll be hoping to put a woeful Newcastle side to the sword this weekend in front of their home support.

For the Magpies themselves, faith in their manager Steve McLaren and his faux Dutch ‘accent’ have hit an all-time low with an embarrassing 3-1 home defeat to Bournemouth last weekend leading the vast majority of Tyneside to call for his head.

After impressively keeping a clean sheet against a Watford team who had more than their fair share of attacking threats last Saturday, we fancy Claudio Ranieri’s side to do the same again on Monday against arguably a much weaker opposition.

Betting Tip: Leicester to win to nil – 8/5

Stoke City v Southampton

Mark Hughes’ Stoke City went out and proved us all wrong at Stamford Bridge last weekend by battling to a 1-1 draw against Chelsea. This Saturday they play host to a Southampton side who were just seconds away from a demoralising defeat to Sam Allardyce’s relegation battlers Sunderland before a goal just 30 seconds from time from Virgil van Dijk saved the Saints’ blushes.

Quite surprisingly, the old adage of Britannia Stadium being a ‘fortress’ under the days when Tony Pulis was manager still rings true today for Stoke City. With the Potters conceding just 14 goals at home this season (only Man United and Tottenham have conceded less), we fancy them to yet again make their home advantage count against Ronald Koeman’s Southampton on Saturday and run out narrow winners in Stoke-On-Trent.

Betting Tip: Stoke to win – 17/10

AFC Bournemouth v Swansea City

Bournemouth picked up a much-needed win against a hapless Newcastle United last Saturday and will now face a Swansea City side who have also seen a turn-around in fortunes recently. Ever since the departure of Swans manager Garry Monk back in December, the Welsh side looked to be sliding dangerously towards the Premier League drop zone but wins against Arsenal and Norwich this month have arrested the Swans’ slump under new boss Francesco Guidolin.

At almost 5/2, we feel a draw between two sides who are inching themselves ever closer towards top flight safety looks a good bet for Saturday afternoon.

Betting Tip: Draw – 47/20
