These two strikers scored important goals in their teams wins last night, helping both Manchester City and Arsenal catch Chelsea up in the race for the title.
Aguero has been unstoppable in recent weeks, scoring goals for fun, whilst Sanchez has been pivotal in turning around Arsenal’s season. But which of these two speedy finishers is the better?
Goals – Aguero
With 14 Premier League strikes to his name so far this season, Sergio Aguero outstrips Alexis by 5 goals, meaning there’s just one winner here. Aguero’s awesome foursome against Tottenham put the striker clear of early runner Diego Costa, and the pacy forward has continued scoring ever since. His treble against Bayern Munich was sensational, whilst his two against QPR were equally as breathtaking. Alexis does have 9 to his name, but a slow start means he’s a few short of Aguero.
Assists – Aguero
Surprisingly, Aguero pips Alexis in this category too as he’s registered one more assist than the Arsenal striker. With 3 so far, Aguero can thank the talented squad at City, as Arsenal haven’t managed to replicate the Champions’ scoring feats. Even though Aguero has gone shooting off into the distance with 14 goals, his 3 assists prove he’s not as greedy as you might think.
Chances Created – Alexis
As we were saying, Alexis has reason to be frustrated that his Arsenal team mates aren’t as clinical as Manchester City, as he has created far more chances than Aguero. In fact, Alexis’ 33 chances creates is more than double what Aguero has managed! What this proves is that the Arsenal man offers more for others around the penalty area, it’s just that he gets more success by shooting himself.
Shot Accuracy – Alexis
Listen to us Alexis – you’d be wiser to shoot rather than pass! His shot accuracy is at an impressive 74%, proving he’s Arsenal’s gem up front, and that his team mates are far short of his standards. Even though Aguero has hit 14 goals this season, his shot accuracy stands at 61%, proving it is persistence that pays in the end.
Man of the Match Awards – Draw
The pair have five each to their names, with Aguero claiming four in the Premier League and Alexis with three. The Arsenal man can compliment two awards against Besiktas and Dortmund with ones against Hull, Burnley and Sunderland, whilst Aguero has his matchwinning performance against Bayern alongside ones from Spurs, Villa, Sunderland and QPR. Both are as important to their teams as each other in this category.
Verdict – Aguero
We’ve identified how the two players differ, but with 5 more goals than his Arsenal counterpart, Sergio Aguero is the undisputed winner. If he maintains his scoring ratio, he could fire City alongside Chelsea and make the title race very interesting. Aguero has been so good recently that he’s arguably more in form than both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. As for Alexis, he’s settled into Arsenal brilliantly and proved his quality during his short time in England. He’s certainly capable of matching Aguero in time, but the Argentine wins this battle for now.
